Barong, mythical benevolent and powerful creature
Barongan or Barong, are figures in Balinese and Javanese mythology. His appearance is depicted in various forms of disguise like animals, and the most famous and adored of all is a quadruped or two-legged creature with a lion's head.
As the leader of the benevolent army, he fought against the demon queen Rangda. This mythological storyline is the basis of ritual costume dance, which is very popular among Balinese and residents in several parts of Java.
