Langendriyan is dramatari by using dialogue tembang, which means casting characters in langendriyan story when dialogue using tembang macapat, sometimes in one song of tembang sung by seroang only, but sometimes also brought by more than one person in turn.
One of the hallmarks of Langendriyan is that staged dance is not performed by standing whole, but also by squatting and occasionally kneeling. No wonder, Langendriyan displays must have a stamina and a very strong physical to be able to perform it.
Tradition Langendriyan version of Mangkunegaran reputedly derived from the tradition of "ura-ura" or menembang done by the workers batik at Godlieb's batik company. Godlieblah was the first to stage Langendriyan. Then, by Raden Mas Haria Tandakusuma, the stage was made Langendriyan Mandraswara in the reign of Mangkunegara IV (1853-1881).
